Jenny Hornby >> I see a woman who is falling from a tall building in the city. Long, purple hair is all around her and she is grabbing for it to catch her fall. I'm not sure if the long hair belongs to her or someone else, above her. February 21 at 2:40am · Like

Sujata Tibrewala >> ‎@Jenny and neetu, You see a lady falling down from a tall building. What do you see in the image that makes you feel that way? You also see long purple hair, to which she is clinging onto.. You are not sure to whom the hair belongs. @Sangeetha you see her on fire, probably murdered, with blood all around and noone to help her. What do you see in the image that made you feel that way? @Trupti you see her on fire, lighting the city streets, what do you see that makes you feel that way @Neeraj you feel that the lady is feeling elated that she is above evrything and everyone.. What do you see that makes you feel that way... @Just curious to know what each of you saw in the painting which made you feel the way you did... Sangeetha I feel something and paint something but at some point, the painting takes over me and dicates what I paint, but I will try my best :) February 21 at 9:41am · Like

Sujata Tibrewala >> Thanks Jenny, Neetu, Sangeetha, trupthi, neeraj and Girish for participating in the discussion. usually VTS (visula thinking strategies through art is done with the group in person), but I wanted to see how I can make it work online. The reason I asked each of you what made you say what you did as your first reaction is because that gives you an insight as to how your subconscious works, since our first reaction to an image would come from our subconscious not the conscious or the logical mind.. Sujata Tibrewala >> So here is a summary of what you all felt after seeing the painting. You felt that this lady was falling from a tall building, and she is cathcing onto something which looks like hair/blood or flowing cloth. Some you said the possibility of murder because the red on the cloth like thing and its reflection on the building makes tou think of foul play. You felt she is helpless, probably on fire. You also thought that may be she is taking a plunge onto the busy street below because you can relate to the lights which come from below, which could be lights from cars and light from her own fire. You also felt that she might be feeling elated that she has the whole world below her, and that she is a woman of new generation who likes to live in freedom.. February 22 at 6:10pm · Like

Sujata Tibrewala >> wow this discussion was quite enlightening for me and I feel satisfied because you were able to see a range of emotions ranging from helplessness, treason, sadness to empowerment and freedom. To answer Sangeetha's question I was trying to paint how today's woman feels when she wants to achieve great heights, which even she never dreamed of.. I used modern symbols to portray this and recreate her struggle, burdens, freedom and responsibilities all at the same time. I did not think I was successful, I still feel it could have been done better. But you guys saw all of it, of course in your own unique way, makes me feel I was successful after all. This also restores my faith in doing symbolic works like this as they do not actually realte to an actual situation and hence is open to each one's interpretation... Sangeetha Pradeep >> Sujata, good discussion.. great that u could achieve in conveying most of ur intentions.. now that u say it ... ur idea of women who wants to achieve great hieghts..able to look into the image and feel it better.. i feel u should name ur image just a title of few words before we throw across our interpretation of what we see.... Sujata Tibrewala >> ‎@Jenny like I was telling you that day I love VTS because the moderator learns more than participants :) February 23 at 1:30am · Like

Sujata Tibrewala >> ‎@Sangeetha somethings are best left unsaid, lest it bias other's opinion. Strictly speaking I should not reveal what was there on my mind even at the end, because a VTS discussion is supposed to be left open ended, open for each one's inetrpration. revealing smething about the artists intention is like validating someone opinion and not the other's, which defeats the purpose completely. but since we are doing this online, I am taking some liberties.. What Sujata had in mind when she painted

I am a woman. I know I am capable of things which people do not think I can do, being a woman. I know the generation of women before me could not even dream of stuff I can imagine now of doing. But even today my accomplishments are measured by more of what I am as mother/wife, daughter and daugher in law, rather than what are my "other" abilities. Hence I feel I am balacing myself on a very fragile, "rope" which may pull me down anytime.

They say, a woman who wants to work outside the family is only a problem of today, the modern society. But there are accounts of women shamans, priestesses, scholars, warriors, rulers etc etc throughout history and across cultures. Many societies in villages and indeginous societies do not have any distinction of "home work" or outside work. Before the industrial age the family produced as a unit and sold as a unit, so housework and commercial work everything was taken care of as a family.

The concept of work outside home, and hence working women is a concept of Industrial age, not an invention of feminists.

I have to only fight the demons inside me, which force me to conform to people's expectations. I have to learn to say no, de priorities certain things when I have to, to do what is important to me in life...

Once I can do it, can anyone stop me from reaching the dizzying height?
