Sujata Tibrewala - Artists Pratibimba the Reflection
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Am I an artist?
Who exactly is an artist?
Why is one person an artist while the other not?

Well I am still finding answers to these questions.....So far I have arrived at this one single answer to this question...Artists are
usually mad people when compared to any normal yardstick...

While others are dancing away in a disco
..The artist will be looking at the patterns the light forms on the
dancing faces at the risk of being rebuked for staring....

They can find joy in looking at little rivulets created in the mud by the recent rain.
Or looking at how different light is reflected
from the trees during different times of the day...

You put them in an office and they will look
at how the computer screen reflects its surroundings in addition to the
content of its screen.
You put them in home and they will look at the pattern their hanging light is
forming on the ceiling....

The inspirations will vary from one artist to the other but each will have their own... But
you know mine now :)

How did I end up here?
A Million dollar question....
I was mad since childhood... When other kids were out playing I used to sit in the garden painting the
leaves of different trees my father planted. My dad was concerned that I did little else other than my
studies and painting... My mother wanted me to go to an art school. But since I also happened to be
good at studies my teachers convinced me that I can only be either an doctor or engineer. So I decided
to become an engineer as a passport out of the predestined life as an housewife..

I worked hard went to IIT and IISc two of the premier institutes in India... But in between assignments and
classes I still
painted. Then I got married...Started my job and I had all the financial freedom I could ever
want. But I found myself still awake
in the nights to paint... Then I saw my daughter always surrounded by
colours. At 3 years she new each individual shade in her 50
coloured box... That was a sign for me to
do something about it. She would not learn from me so I had to lead by example..So I bought serious art
supplies in a long time. But I still did not know what to paint. My job had dried my inspirations... Then
came a disturbing period of my life,  the death of a close relative... I found myself helpless, not being
able to do anything about the tragedy.
Not knowing what I could do, I painted as a last resort... That
helped me accept it as a fact and move on.

A good thing that came out of it was that my flood gates opened and I started painting like never before.
My husband had  introduced me to his world of Urdu poetry by then and I saw myself being influences by
it too....

Then came a day when I could no longer live a dual life. My day job was eating me, physically and
mentally. The final blow came
when my doctor told me to give it all a break. So I did take a break and
painted as much as my body allowed. Before I knew it I had
my first show and had such a good
response that my break became permanent. Now painting is all I do apart from my worldly duties to my
family...
My Deeds in the art world so far...
